Position

We are seeking a Senior Principal Windows Administrator to support and enhance enterprise-level IT infrastructure. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting Windows-based physical and virtual servers, optimizing system performance, and ensuring high availability and security across multi-user computing environments.

What You'll Do

Windows Server Administration

  • Maintain smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, coordinating with network administrators.
  • Evaluate vendor products, interact with users, and recommend hardware/software purchases.
  • Oversee server installation, backup recovery, documentation, and policy enforcement for system usage.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve operational software issues to restore service promptly.
  • Administer Windows Operating Systems with a focus on performance tuning and security hardening.

Physical Server Support

  • Perform physical server builds and troubleshooting, including:
    • DAS/SAN storage connectivity.
    • Memory, power supply, HBA, and component replacements.
    • Coordination with application/database teams for issue resolution.
    • Storage provisioning: extending/adding SAN drives, configuring RAID groups for DAE storage.
    • Configure server backups and restores (TSM, Avamar)
  • Connect servers to network/SAN, ensuring proper configuration and integration.
  • Troubleshoot CIFS/NFS permissions, folder/share requests, and general server issues.

Virtual Server Administration

  • Deploy and manage virtual servers (TSM, Avamar, Nutanix applications).
  • Perform CPU/RAM adjustments, hypervisor troubleshooting, and resource planning across clusters.
  • Troubleshoot VM issues, including nonresponsive applications, backup agent failures, and VMware ESXi/AHV/Azure/AWS environments.
  • Resolve hypervisor alerts, datastore capacity thresholds, and host connectivity issues.
  • Administer snapshots, image backups, and disaster recovery solutions.

Incident & Request Management

  • Utilize ServiceNow for incident resolution, request fulfillment, and documentation.
  • Investigate database connectivity issues, backup agent communication failures, and fiber channel path failures.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to resolve critical IT infrastructure challenges.

What You'll Bring

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Windows Server administration experience.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and work after hours/weekends as needed.
  • Capable of travel to NGC facilities as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Windows Server Administration certifications.
  • Experience with NAS storage administration (preferably NetApp ONTAP 8.x or higher, CDOT).
  • Strong understanding of RAID configurations and enterprise storage concepts.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server security hardening, RMF, and STIG compliance.
  • Hands-on experience with VMware ESXi (6.x or higher).
  • Strong documentation skills (Wiki, SharePoint).
