Position

We are seeking a Backup Server Administrator to oversee Enterprise Server OS (Windows & RHEL) data protection, backup strategies, and disaster recovery initiatives. This role is crucial in ensuring data integrity, resiliency, and high availability through proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and capacity planning.

What You'll Do

Backup Strategy & Data Protection

  • Manage and implement enterprise backup strategies to ensure data integrity and high availability.
  • Administer server backups and restores across Windows and RHEL environments.
  • Identify and mitigate backup failures from a server perspective, ensuring proactive troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Optimize backup configurations to enhance performance, reduce risk, and improve recovery times.

Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity

  • Support disaster recovery (DR) planning and testing, ensuring data resiliency in critical scenarios.
  • Participate in annual DR exercises, working closely with stakeholders to validate backup policies, replication, and failover strategies.
  • Maintain disaster recovery documentation, runbooks, and failover procedures.

Incident Management & Optimization

  • Monitor and troubleshoot backup alerts, failures, and performance issues.
  • Handle backup-related incidents and service requests via ITSM tools (e.g., ServiceNow).
  • Conduct capacity planning and storage utilization analysis to ensure efficient resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure teams, storage engineers, and application owners to align backup solutions with business needs.

Security & Compliance

  • Ensure backup and restore operations align with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and internal security policies.
  • Implement access controls and retention policies to enhance data protection.
  • Regularly review backup logs and reports, identifying potential risks and areas for improvement.

What You'll Bring

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience administering enterprise backup solutions across Windows and RHEL environments.
  • Strong knowledge of backup tools and technologies (e.g., TSM, Avamar, Data Domain, NetBackup, Veeam, or similar platforms).
  • Understanding of server infrastructure, storage management, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Hands-on experience with IT service management platforms (e.g., ServiceNow) for incident resolution and request fulfillment.
  • Ability to analyze backup failures and implement proactive resolutions.
  • Capable of travel to NGC facilities as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud-based and hybrid backup solutions (Azure, AWS, Nutanix, etc.).
  • Knowledge of enterprise storage systems (NetApp, Dell EMC, Isilon, etc.) and storage-tiering strategies.
  • Familiarity with business continuity planning, failover testing, and backup compliance frameworks.
  • Experience with automation/scripting for backup process optimization (PowerShell, Bash, Python, etc.).
  • Strong documentation skills, with experience maintaining backup policies, runbooks, and technical guides.
