Position

We are seeking an Unstructured Storage Folder/File Permissions Administrator to manage CIFS/NFS permissions, access controls, folder structures, and share configurations across the enterprise. This role ensures secure, well-organized, and efficient file storage while supporting data protection, compliance, and system administration efforts.

What You'll Do

Storage Access & Permissions Management

  • Administer CIFS/NFS permissions, access controls, and folder/share configurations to ensure secure and efficient enterprise file storage.
  • Fulfill folder creation, access modifications, and new share requests while maintaining data integrity and security compliance.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to troubleshoot and resolve access and permissions issues across Windows and Linux environments.

Data Protection & Compliance

  • Ensure proper governance of unstructured data storage, adhering to security policies and compliance frameworks.
  • Support data protection initiatives, backup configurations, and archival solutions for unstructured storage.
  • Monitor storage usage and enforce policies for proper data organization and retention.

Incident & Request Management

  • Handle file system-related incidents, access requests, and permission escalations via IT service management platforms (e.g., ServiceNow).
  • Document best practices, troubleshooting steps, and access control policies to ensure consistency and knowledge sharing.

System Administration & Process Optimization

  • Assist with file system performance tuning, software updates, and service account management.
  • Develop automation scripts to improve permission management efficiency (PowerShell, Bash, Python, etc.).
  • Work with enterprise IT teams to evaluate storage solutions and recommend process improvements.

What You'll Bring

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ year experience managing CIFS/NFS permissions, file share configurations, and access controls in a large enterprise.
  • Strong understanding of Windows/Linux file system structures and access control models.
  • Familiarity with data protection principles, backup solutions, and storage best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with IT service management tools (e.g., ServiceNow) for request fulfillment and incident tracking.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex file access issues and document solutions clearly.
  • Willingness to travel to client facilities occasionally for on-site support and collaboration.
  • Capable of travel to NGC facilities as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with enterprise storage platforms (NetApp, Dell EMC, Isilon, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Active Directory integration for file system permissions.
  • Familiarity with backup and archival solutions (TSM, Avamar, Data Domain, etc.).
  • Exposure to cloud-based and hybrid storage environments (Azure, AWS, Nutanix, etc.).
  • Strong scripting skills for automating file access and permissions management.
